Biggest Island of Turkey: Gökçeada(Imbros)! (With Updated Rules)

Frankly, i talked about there of my former articles. Now i wanna update my previously articles because now these were not actual and doesn’t work more. I got it this when we come back from Russia. A lot of things are changed! Alright, let’s talking about Gökçeada island.



Guys, firstly Gökçeada is a island and biggest island of Turkey.If you didn’t read my former blogs, i wanna talk about there for you. It is located West of Turkey and connected Çanakkale province. It’s a district of Çanakkale too. So, if you wanna visit there, you follow to Çanakkale road in Europe side. For example, if you in Asian side of Çanakkale, you need to pass strait and go to European side. Shortly, you need to find Gallipoli Peninsula.


Access to the island is by ship only and you arrive in there after one and a half hours. Before come this island you need to find Kabatepe Port in the Gallipoli peninsula. Because the ships are work only this port to go island. If you have a car, you can write to navigator ‘Kabatepe feribot iskelesi’. The navigator brings you there from faster road. But be careful in summer times because a lot people goes to island with their cars. Therefore, in summer times in the port so crowded and noisy. You can wait a whole day in the car line! Alright guys, i’m explain to island history a little bit for you because it has a interesting history. Actually, history of this island dates back to BC. But ın recent history always change between Greece and Turkey. I mention that, local people of this island are old Greek people. We call them Rums. In 1455 island stayed to Ottomans. In 1912 Greece army entered in Gökçeada again but stayed Turkey again after the treaty of Athens. Finally Gökçeada joined to Turkey 22 sept 1923 after the Lausanne Peace Treaty as official. Right now, Turks and Greeks living each other in this island in peace. J

Well, let’s talk about visiting places and what can you eat there! If you like camping like me, i’ve a bad news for you! Unfortunately, you can’t camping more all over the island! 2 years ago we did it but we can’t do now. That’s why, you can prefer camping places with price or Daily houses, hotels and etc. Don’t worry guys, Gökçeada is really rich of staying places, wherever you go in the island. You’re gonna be a lot of options for staying in there. But! You need to careful about 2-3 things for staying, let’s take a look.

First, if you wanna visit there in summer times, you need to careful about renting hotel, house or hostel! Opportunatist people can talking about to crowd and give you more expensive options! For blocked this, you can search renting houses or whatever you want to staying place for use airbnb and like kinda apps. This kind of apps can help you for searching relax, clean and peaceful places and give you their good prices. So, if you didn’t take a look this app and directly go in there, you can welcome to some problems for you. Don’t play a Russian roulette, don’t take a risk and don’t worry, don’t regret! J

Dear friends, if you ask me about what’s my prefer for staying except camping, i can say always a house. You know why, if i can rent a house i can feel like my home. I can cook whatever i want, i can use bath and bathroom as relaxly. Shortly, i can move like my home. You can do that too! J

Don’t forget to visit all of bays in Gökçeada guys. Every bay is more fascinating then each others! That’s why, if you have a car you can visit all around to island more easy. Another way, you can use to buses but you need to follow their hours and where they’re go. If you haven’t car or motorbike, i recommend to rent there or before go there! So you can visit every place as well.

Do not forget to visit these villages:

1. Kaleköy village: Awesome fishing port and sunset. A lot of Greek-Turk restaurants. You can drink Turkish rakı or whatever you like in there and eat tasty Greek appetizer in your dinner while you watching sunset! That village is average 15 km away from city centre.





2. Yıldızkoy: Interesting rock formations, fascinating under water view and clean sea for swimming. I wanna warn you about winds! Sometimes really make you feel in the storm but it worth it to see and visit. J





3. Zeytinli village: A Greek village. You can drink traditional coffee and taste yummy mastic gum dessert in one of Greek cafes. Especially these drink and dessert still preparing traditional way. They’re crushing coffee seeeds in big, old stone cups.





4. Tepeköy village: It’s mean hill village. An old Greek village but still Rums are living there. Village located on a hill. But there is a place before go that village, perfect landscape welcomes to you. You can watch to another Greek island ‘Samothraki’. Also you can drink and eat someting a restaurant located in there while you watching to view!








5. Dereköy: Another old Greek village. I think only 2 Greek families still living there. Especially you like to visit historical places, it’s just for you! Looks a ghost town. A lot of houses were destroyed and hasn’t opened for years. You can listen to history about this village while you visiting old houses. History about this village is so interesting and sad, i’ll write a article about this village history in my next articles. Well, you can eat there goat and little goat meat. Island goats are so famous, you can see all over to island goats while going somewhere as jumping. J

                                   






6. Uğurlu village: Westernmost village of the island. Actually, you need to visit a port in this village. Frankly there is no something to see city centre. That’s why you need to go ‘Gizli Liman’. There is loooong and great beach, clean sea for swimming and rock hills for hiking. You will simply love it there!




7. City centre: If you wanna buy about famious things from the island, you can find to city centre. And also there is restaurants (home made Turkish dishes too), cafes, pastry and ice cream place in the centre. You can visit there if you want to buy souvenirs, organic foods and drinks for example; goat cheese, olive oil, kind of wines and things like these.
