Some traditions of Turkey!
Hey everyone! How are you? I hope, everything be allright for you. My name is Ertuğ and i live in Russia but i am from western of Turkey, ‘Çanakkale’ city. I am 29 years old. I am a musician and an author. And also i am a traveller and a camper. I discovered 90% of Turkey with my big camping backpack. I will talk about to ‘Traditional things of Turkey’ this article. I hope you like it! We can start if you ready. Firstly is:
Traditions
unique to Turkish culture, where you will be mixed frequently in Daily life:
Ancient
Turkish culture has undergone many changes over time. But there are many
Turkish traditions in certain regions of Anatolia that have been going on for
centuries and still live. Increasing urbanization and coexistence of different
cultural structures have brough many different, interesting, entertaining and
sadness traditions to the light. The habits, traditions and costums that can be
quite surprising for a stranger and that can be encountered frequently an Daily
life may come across as follows;
BAD
ENERGY DEFENCE TACTICS:
In
Turkish society, ‘Nazar’ (devil eye or evil eye) is very believed! Nazar is
really important thing for Turkish people. The inability and envy of someone
else is thought to harm the person. To repel such bad thought and evil eye, the
earlobe is pulled, the bad thoughts are fired by knocking on the board as if
the door is knocking. (I know, that’s sound is funny J) Of course, in order for an English, German,
Italian or and other countries citizen to understand this, it may be necessary
to undergo academic education.
And also, there are other habits, besides pulling the ear and hitting the board so that evil energy, the evil eye and the bad gaze do not affect them. One of them is biting the tongue. The biting of the tongue and the itching of the butt without exposing it to anybody are used by Turkish people as defense tactics that will destroy all the bad energy. (Please don’t funny. But you can smile J)
TURKISH
HOSPITALITY:
The
other traditional thing is Turkish hospitality. This subject is really
important for Turkish people also. In Turkish culture, the guests who come home
are best hosted and there is never any defect in service. For this reason, they
always goes after the guest during them stay, and they are constantly pressured
to stay more, eat more or even sleep! (This case will you bother, believe me! J)
The
host will put pressure on you to eat more. Thats why, it is most common for the
guest to say that he (she) is satiated and to insist that the landlord eats
constantly J
GREEN
LIGHT HORN: (On the traffic)
Yes,
this topic are reaalllyy disturbed! Republic of Turkey traffic is absolutely
tedious and challenging. Particularly in big cities, the traffic dencity is
very high and people compete with each other to go from one place to another.
When the green light which has become a tradition in traffic and which is
unique to Turkish people, turns on the tradition of horn is spreading more and
more!
Everyone,
from young people who have received a drivers license to people who have been
driving for 30 years, has the habit of stealing a horn when the green light is
on. As soon as the red light goes out and the green light comes on, a warning
sound comes with a short horn sound from the vehicle behind. If the foremost
vehicle still does not move after this warning, the real ‘apocalypse’ breaks
after it! So the horn steals increase and the human hand and foot wander
together. J
Did
you surprise? Please don’t suprised because there is republic of Turkey! Thats
so normal in my country. You get used to it over time J
APARTMENT-
NEIGHBORLY RELATIONS AND CULTURES IN TURKEY:
The
apartments are of the most important architectural structures of urban life
began to rise in the 1800’s in republic of Turkey. It is still possible to see
the first built apartments, particularly in ‘İstanbul’ city districts such as
‘Taksim’, ‘Şişli’, ‘Pera’ and ‘Kadıköy’ where non-muslim citizens live.
Republic of Turkey is no longer in the 1950’s when the bride apartment located
literally culture and replaced by apartment type residential architecture in
the major cities.
Briefly,
arthitectural structures are among the basic parameters that determine the city
culture and neighbourhood relations. The neighborhood is made towards the
transition from culture to culture in Turkey apartment, apartment emerge as a
smaller unit structure of the neighborhood. Let’s take a brief look at the
apartment culture together!
INDISPENSABLE
ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURE OF CITY CULTURE; THIS IS ‘APARTMENTS’:
Firstly,
there are differences in apartment culture according to the districts
inhabited. For example; Turkey’s largest city (as population) with a population
apartment in ‘Kadıköy’ district of ‘İstanbul’ city with another apartment,
which creates different characteristics of the population in ‘Taksim’ district
in ‘İstanbul’ city.
Perhaps
the most important figüre in apartments, which is the subject of movies, TV
series and constitutes the content of many literary Works, is the ‘manager’.
Managers, who regulate the income expenses needs and all the Works of the
apartment, can sometimes exaggerate these situations and Show a sweet and hard
approach to the residents.
Thats
right! Now we came subject of managers! Lets, take a look as my comments to
this people:
OTHERWISE
AND SWEET PERSONALITY OF APARTMENTS: (MANAGERS)
Absolutely,
one of the most sensitive issues for apartment managers is the collection of
dues in Turkey. When there is a shortage
of dues collected from apartments for heatings, cleanings, maintenance and
repairs every month apartment managers become completely different and try to
collect dues with unimaginable methods! Apartments pay their dues clipboard
apartment located at the entrance of all managers apply the methods for the
collection of dues apartment in Turkey to disclose. Interesting, right? Yea, i
know! You are right, thats really interesting J
The
most common problems of managers in apartments are elevator repair and fuel
boiler maintenance. Thats why elevators which are regularly repaired every mont
hare found to be more corrupt than the days then work and compulsory stair
journeys begin for residents!
I
would like to adress this issue separately, the residents of the apartment
where the managers are dealing with the most are generally ‘student houses’! In
student houses where students from other cities live together, the entire
control is in fact the manager of the apartment. For example, controls such as
what time comes at home night, too much noise, too many friends are called home
are for manager! (I wanted to share them with you because i lived in my
university years.)
And
also all detailed follow ups such as foreign vehicles not being parked in front
of the apartment, and no peddlers and beggars entering the apartment are
controlled by the manager! Most of the retired apartment manager in Turkey is
generally selected from those who deal with order business.
NEIGHBORLY
RELATIONS IN TURKEY STRONGER THAN KINSHIP
Although
neighbors neighborly relations in Turkey is extremely advanced in every
negative situation and try to solve the problems of each other. The residents
of the apartment, who support each other in material and moral aspects and make
efforts to facilitate every difficulty, become like family members.

NEED
TO KNOW ABOUT MARRIAGE TRADITIONS IN TURKEY:
Fisrtly,
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MARRIAGE:
In
the past, marriage between relatives was common in Turkey. Today the rate of
such marriages has decreased due to the impact of urbanization.
Another
marriage is the kind of happens when the brother dies. In this case, the brother
of the deceased man, (may be the only or widow) marries widow woman. This is
done in the family and in the well being of children to protect the legacy of
the deceased. (But, today this type of marriage is not practised.)
Another
one is ‘taygeldi’ marriage.
In this marriage, a married widow and children from previous marriages and the
widow are settled in the house.
Another
marriage arrangement or tradition in Turkey, ‘iç güveysi’ marriage. And in this marriage the
groom settles in the house where his wife lives and lives with his wife’s
family.
According
to Turkish traditions, marriage between the ‘milk brothers’ is not possible.
Children who are breastfeed by a woman (in cases where a mother cannot
breastfeed her for illness or other reasons) become the ‘milk brother’ of the
woman with whom they drink milk and these ‘milk’ siblings do not marry.
TODAY, SUCH
MARRIAGES ARE SCARCELY ANY. PARTICULARLY, IN THE WESTERN REGIONS DO NOT
ALREADY!
MARRIAGE
AGE:
General
marriage age in Turkey is about 22 for men and 20 for women. But it may vary
between 5 or 6 years. For example; today young people go to college, which
extends their marriage age until they graduate mostly. The important thing of
the marriage is, in general marriage procedures the first step towards marriage
is expected from the groom and his family, and the family of the girl who is
aspired remains passive.
